THE CENTER CAMPUS

17 acres and 59,000 square feet of buildings

The Center for African American History, Cultural Arts & Business is being created out of the historic Southern Pines Primary School which started in 1924 as a 4 acre Rosenwald School and grew to serve as the segrgated Black K-12 school until intergrated in the early 1970's. Southern Pines Primary closed in December, 2020 when students moved to the newly constructed Southern Pines Elementary School. After a 3-year struggle with Moore County Schools, the Trust was able to purchase the campus for $685,000 on December 15, 2021.
